What Else the App Can Do
Why Regular Pool Water Analysis Matters
-
Clear and clean pool water doesn't happen on its own.
It requires regular monitoring. pH level, disinfection, alkalinity: these parameters influence one another. If one is off, the entire water balance suffers.
Keeping an eye on your water values saves you time, money and hassle in the long run – and simply makes for a better swim.
Typical consequences of neglect: cloudy or green water, chlorine odour, skin and eye irritation, limescale deposits on pool walls and equipment, or unnecessarily high product usage when resolving problems.
The Most Important Water Parameters
-
The ideal pH level is between 7.0 and 7.4. If it's too high, the disinfectant loses effectiveness dramatically and limescale builds up. If it's too low, the water attacks materials, skin and eyes. The pH level is the first and most important step in any water care routine.
-
The TA value stabilises the pH level and prevents uncontrolled fluctuations. Ideal value: above 80 mg/l. A well-adjusted TA value makes the entire care routine significantly easier in the long run.
-
Without effective disinfection, water quickly becomes cloudy and hygienically questionable. The most common methods are chlorine (0.5 to 1.0 mg/l), bromine (1 to 3 mg/l) and active oxygen. Salt electrolysis is also widely used: chlorine is produced directly from the salt water. My Pool Expert takes your chosen method into account for all recommendations.
-
Cyanuric acid is often misunderstood. In fact, it acts like a protective shield: it prevents chlorine from being rapidly broken down by UV radiation and ensures it is released steadily into the water, rather than being consumed too quickly. Without a stabiliser, chlorine consumption in an outdoor pool would be several times higher.
The ideal range is between 30 and 50 mg/l; the value should not exceed 100 mg/l.

-
Water hardness varies considerably by region and influences limescale formation. Ideal range: 7 to 14 °dH. Particularly relevant in areas with hard tap water or when filling your pool with well water. At elevated hardness levels and a pH above 7.6, Calcinex® is recommended as a preventive hardness stabiliser.

Pool Water Testing: The Right Methods
-
Pool test strips (e.g. QuickTest)
The quickest method for weekly pool water testing. Simply dip into the water and compare the colour change against the colour scale. Available for chlorine and bromine care methods: QuickTest Cl-Br (chlorine/bromine).
-
Manual pool tester (pH/Cl or pH/O₂)
Reliable and easy to read. Fill with water, dissolve the tablet, read the colour. More accurate than test strips, though it typically measures only two parameters. Pooltester pH/Cl.
-
Electronic pool tester with Bluetooth transfer
The Electronic Pooltester from BAYROL measures pH level, free chlorine, total chlorine, bromine, TA value and chlorine stabiliser to one decimal place. A particular advantage: it connects exclusively to My Pool Expert via Bluetooth and can transfer all readings to the app at the press of a button.
-
Professional water analysis at a dealer
If the problem persists or you have any concerns, we recommend having the water tested by an authorised BAYROL dealer. Bring a water sample with you: you’ll receive a full analysis and personalised advice.
